MA Degree in Literacy
This will be my 26th year of teaching. I have taught at Lafayette for the last thirteen years: two years in literacy, four years in fourth grade, and this will be my seventh year in fifth grade.
Prior to coming to Lafayette Elementary, I taught for ten years in Estes Park. There I taught fifth grade. My teaching career began when I lived in Durango, Colorado where I taught fifth grade for three years in nearby Farmington, New Mexico.
I love to spend time with my husband, ride my cruiser bike, walk, and travel. This summer we went on a nice trip to Glenwood Springs and Aspen. Our favorite part was hiking in the Maroon Bells and reconnecting with a childhood friend I hadn’t seen in 30 years. I also enjoy spending time in Estes Park visiting old friends and spending time with my parents who live there in the summer. When I am home, I love to read and garden.
Teaching fifth graders is my love! I love the energy fifth graders have! I also enjoy their sense of humor and watching them grow academically throughout the year as they become stronger independent thinkers.
I look forward to coming to school each and every day and working with the students I teach. It is exciting for me to watch my students have new experiences and realize they can do many things they may have thought they couldn’t do.
I want each and every student in my room to realize everyone has special gifts, and I want to help each student find their “gift” and help them to believe in themselves and know they can do anything they set their mind to. I want each child to be successful! Mostly, I want my students to love learning and to be excited to come to school prepared to work hard and not only do familiar things, but to also try new things, take
on new challenges, and have fun!
I am really looking forward to a great 2017-2018 school year! I’m glad you will be a part of it.
